A Complete Guide To The World of Spyware

2.4  Downloading Dangers

Next time you’re about to download something, ask yourself what those people behind the software or Smilies have to gain by giving you something “free.” Are they just exceedingly generous?  Millionaires with a lot of time on their hands? No, they’re not. So what are they getting out of it? The answer is – if it’s not just trying to mess with your computer - mainly money.

Much of the free programs are free because they make money by distributing spyware and adware.

So, while you don’t have to open your wallet to get the files and programs you are after, you are still opening up and laying bare your computer and your personal information to the spyware companies looking to profit from it.

If a site or service seems shady or too good to be true, then it is.  Don’t be that sucker born in that particular minute.
