3.4 Antivirus Protection and Firewalls

Virus protection and firewalls cannot protect you from spyware threats. These programs were designed to protect you from other threats and infections, not spyware and adware.

A firewall is necessary because it alerts you to suspicious programs attempting to access your PC from the Internet, or one that sends information from your computer through the Internet. Zone Alarm and Windows Firewall (XP) are respected and valuable firewall programs.

For virus protection, you can’t go wrong with Panda, AVG Anti Virus, Norton or McAfee.

Spyware, virus and firewall protection are a defensive triad that forms a strong security defense on your computer. To be safe, you should have all three installed on your PC at all times.
